Opportunities |
WorkshopsWorkshops are volunteer led and supported! Through workshops, volunteers show students how writing connects to their lives in unexpected ways. If volunteers are interested in leading a workshop, 826LA staff will support with the development of the lesson plans and activities. Writing techniques and content will vary depending on student age group. Virtual VolunteerWe have developed special trainings to help our volunteer corps pivot to virtual programming. If you’re interested in joining our community of supporters who are dedicated to improving student outcomes, we hope you’ll consider volunteering. Evening TutoringVolunteers provide homework assistance to students ages 13-18. Students will also work on creative writing assignments developed by 826LA, which will then be published in a book at the end of the school year. Homework subject matters will vary, depending on what students bring in. Volunteers may work with anywhere between 2-4 students within each session. Field TripsField Trips volunteers help LAUSD classes write and publish a book in just three hours. Depending on the type of Field Trip, volunteers can support with classroom or small group facilitation, writing support, illustration and publishing support. In-SchoolsVolunteers support high school students with their creative writing projects or personal statements (fall semester). Sessions take place on LAUSD campuses, and last for the duration of a class period. Volunteers may work one-on-one with students or in small groups. In-Schools creative writing projects result in a book, or finished writing publication. After-School TutoringVolunteers provide homework assistance to students ages 6 to 12. Students will also work on creative writing assignments developed by 826LA, which will then be published in books at the end of each semester. Homework subject matters will vary, depending on what students bring in. Volunteers may work with anywhere between 2-4 students within each session. |
