Since our establishment in 2013, FEAST has been dedicated to promoting health and wellness through the power of nutritious food, education, and community support. Our impact extends beyond individual transformations, creating a ripple effect that fosters community wellness and inspires healthy living.
Why: FEAST’s Food Access Program, launched in March 2020, recovers high-quality, farm-fresh produce in partnership with Food Forward and Seeds of Hope to distribute to our participants.
Who: FEAST is a community health organization working at the intersection of food insecurity, social isolation, and chronic disease. We address all three together — because they are interrelated, systemic conditions, and improving health requires intervening in all of them.
What to Expect: Every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, we distribute over 70 bags of groceries at our location at 3303 W Vernon Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90008, from 8am–12pm. Our volunteers are vital to the success of our Food Access Program. Volunteers will support with receiving, sorting, and distributing recovered food while also interacting directly with the community we serve.
Our food distribution follows a client-choice, farmers market-style model, where participants are invited to select the fresh produce they want to take home based on their household’s preferences and needs. Volunteers help create a welcoming and supportive experience by assisting participants as they shop and select their produce.
Volunteer tasks include:
- Setup and breakdown of space
- Lifting up to 50 lbs of recovered food (if able)
- Sorting through recovered produce
- Assisting participants with selecting and carrying produce
- Distributing produce to participants
- Engaging with and welcoming FEAST participants throughout the distribution
- Sweeping, mopping, and breaking down boxes
- Cleaning tables
- Composting inedible food
- Recycling boxes
What’s Required:
- The volunteer opportunity runs from 8:30am to 11:30m every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, unless noted otherwise.
- We recommend volunteers wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes (required) and bring water.
