Connected to Organization --- not set --- Opportunity Title Description If you're a current high school student who's interested in helping younger K-8th grade students in the classroom, develop your leadership skills and give back to the community then the Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC) is looking for you! KYCC's Bridge program is led by a group of passionate high school student volunteers who tutor and mentor our younger students in our afterschool programs. Research has shown that every child is just one caring person away from being a success story. KYCC's youth programs serve 500 children a year, so your time and energy can mean that one more child will have a better chance in life with just a few hours a week. We've found that our volunteers get just as much, if not more out of building this relationship with kids who would thrive with just a little more attention. At the same time, you learn to grow as a person, leader and volunteer - our Bridge program offers opportunities for student volunteers to learn how to run a volunteer program through hands-on work. The Koreatown Youth and Community Center was established in 1975 to support a growing population of at-risk youth in Los Angeles. Today, KYCC is the leading multiservice organization in Koreatown, supporting children and their families in the areas of education, health, housing, and finances. Most of the clients served are first generation immigrants from Asia and Latin America. Committed to serving the diverse population of Koreatown, we offer all programs in Spanish, Korean and English. Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities Tutoring along with student/classroom supervision. Assist classroom instructors with enrichment activities. Provide light administrative assistance (i.e. roster/data management, snacks preparation and service) Monday - Friday with shifts available between 8:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M. Requirements Must currently enrolled in high school as a student to apply. Because volunteers are building important relationships with youth, we ask that they stay for the full summer term.
