Sack Lunch Donations Needed!

MISSION
Union Station Homeless Services is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, who is committed to helping individuals and families rebuild their lives and discover permanent solutions to ending homelessness.

IMPACT
Often times individuals who are experiencing homelessness are also facing food insecurity. With the rising cost of living, our community needs our help more than ever. Union Station Homeless Services is looking for volunteers to provide sack lunches for our shelter residents and community members in need.

Sack Lunches are to Include:

  1. 1 Sandwich (salami & cheese, turkey/ham & cheese, or PB&J)
  2. Fruit (no bananas)
  3. Chips
  4. Health Snack (i.e. granola bar, trail mix, etc)
  5. Dessert (no candy)
  6. Beverage (Water or Gatorade)
  7. Napkin & utensils (if needed)

REQUIREMENTS

When packing lunches, please clearly mark the date on each bag. If any lunch contains nuts, please label them. We accept sack lunches at our Adult Center (412 S. Raymond Ave, Pasadena) every day of the week between 8:00 am – 2:30 pm.

MISSION

IMPACT
Our organization relies heavily on the support of volunteer groups to provide daily home-cooked meals to our shelter residents and community members in need. Gather your friends, family, corporation, and/or civic group and provide a meal for our Adult Center.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIESVOLUNTEER

  1. Plan a menu of your choice (i.e. roasted chicken, mac and cheese, salad, cookies, and drinks)
  2. Purchase the ingredients needed to prepare the food
  3. Cook the meal – prepare the meals in our kitchens — or purchase food from a restaurant and drop it off or have it delivered
  4. Serve the meal to our residents (optional-– if you choose not to serve in person, our staff is happy to serve the meal on your behalf)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Volunteers must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to cook/serve onsite.
  • Please note that there is an age requirement for volunteering in the kitchen. Children under the age of 13 are not allowed in the kitchen at any time. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old with a chaperone, 16 to volunteer without.

Dress code: We ask that you please wear closed toed shoes and long pants for your safety and protection.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Unable to cook or plan a meal, but still interested in helping? In lieu of providing a meal, our kitchen staff would be grateful for a Smart&Final gift card to assist with costs.

COVID PRECAUTIONS
Volunteers will be required to wear a surgical-grade mask or higher (not cloth). If you do not have a surgical mask, Union Station Homeless Services will be able to provide you with one upon arrival to your volunteer shift. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required if serving/cooking at our facilities. Additionally, all volunteers must read and acknowledge a COVID liability waiver onsite.

Volunteer

Whether you volunteer in our kitchens to prepare meals for our clients; at our facilities to provide a workshop, story time, or craft event; or in our offices to help with administrative work, you will be a valuable member of our family when you volunteer at Union Station Homeless Services. Volunteer opportunities are varied, and we do our best to match volunteers with a position that suits their interests and skills.

In-kind donations keep our programs running! Help offset our program costs by donating an item from our Wish List.Donations of new items can be dropped off at: 825 E Orange Grove Blvd, 9:00am – 4:00pm, (M-F). Over 50 years ago, a group of compassionate community members wanted to make a difference. Together, they founded Union Station Homeless Services. Today, volunteers continue to be essential to our life-saving work.
About us

Union Station Homeless Services is part of a premier group of human services agencies in Los Angeles County that are leading the way to ending homelessness in our community. We are the San Gabriel Valley’s largest social service agency assisting homeless and very low-income adults and families. Since 1973, Union Station has helped rebuild the lives of thousands of people who were once homeless and without hope. With over 45 years of experience, we proudly offer a full continuum of nine programs throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Our core services include outreach, bridge housing, permanent housing, and employment. In addition, we offer basic needs such as meals and showers, and well as care coordination, benefits enrollment, and referrals to medical and mental health services.
