Los Angeles burns, and your community needs you. Southern California Wildfire Response (SCWR) is recruiting volunteer firefighters to defend WUI communities across the Santa Monica Mountains, San Fernando Valley, and neighboring areas — no fire experience required, only the commitment to show up, train hard, and serve.
As a Los Angeles Volunteer Firefighter with SCWR, you’ll respond to wildland fires, technical rescues, and all-hazard emergencies as part of a Type 6 engine crew, training regularly at our dedicated 45-acre facility in the Santa Monica Mountains. Along the way, you’ll earn nationally recognized NWCG and FEMA certifications — including S-130/S-190, ICS-100/200, and your Firefighter Type I & II Red Card — all provided at no cost, while gaining hands-on experience inside a credentialed incident command structure.
Applicants must be 18 or older, hold a valid California driver’s license, and be able to pass a background check and physical fitness assessment. This is an unpaid volunteer position with a real commitment — 12–20 hours a week plus 24/7 on-call availability, more during fire season — but for the right person, it’s a chance to serve on the front lines of the communities you call home.
