Our mission | In response to the compelling needs of the women and children living in the house, as well as the neighborhood needs before us each day, the goal of Alexandria House is to be a community-oriented transitional house and neighborhood center which is intentionally multicultural, antiracist and where the needs of women who are economically poor are central. |

Ways to help |
Saturday Thrift Sale VolunteerWe have thrift sales the first two Saturdays of every month (except December) for our current, past residents and community members. We need help setting up, organizing, providing child care services, and cleaning up afterwards.Child Care VolunteerVolunteers support our child care staff in working with infants and toddlers ages 0-4 doing various activities from reading to outdoor play.Winter, Spring, Summer Camp VolunteerCamps are held during all LAUSD vacations. Help us put on fun activities and field trips! Experience working with school-aged children is a plus.After-School and Teen Program VolunteerOur after-school and teen programs need volunteers to help students (5-18 years old) with homework, reading activities, and enrichment projects. Volunteers should be at least high school age, but we will consider mature middle school students.Evening Youth Activities Program (EYAP) VolunteerVolunteers help supervise up to 20 kids ranging in ages 1 to 13 years old. They must be willing to take charge and organize activities. Ideally, the Alexandria House staff would be supported by 3 volunteers each evening.Top Chef Program VolunteerOur cooking program serves current residents and other members of the Alexandria House community. It is a wonderful treat for women living in residence when volunteers come to cook dinner! Just like you, they have a busy life with work, school and kids and can use a “night off “ too! Dinner should be served promptly at 6:00 p.m. for about 30-40 people.Special ProjectsThere are a number of special projects that volunteers are welcome to initiate and participate in. Projects include: workshop series for residents or community members, gardening, office support, fundraising projects, cleaning and beautification of the houses. |
