How you help
Real change starts with you — and every one of us can help make a difference. ACLU activists help turn America's most cherished principles into reality.
About us
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) defends the fundamental rights outlined in the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These include the right to freedom of speech and assembly, the right to religious freedom, due process of law, equality before the law and the right to privacy. The ACLU also relies on state constitutional provisions and federal and state laws that further these and similar rights. We accomplish the above by public education, lobbying and litigation. We educate and help empower individuals about their rights.
This pace of in-custody deaths is the new norm in Los Angeles. Last year we highlighted that there was a record number of 55 deaths in LASD facilities in 2021. It's gotten worse since then.
Great job by @fionaaaluu who is also a #YouthLibertySquad student and @ACLU_SoCal intern. https://twitter.com/KidsPartnership/status/1640869165564325888

The conditions in #MensCentralJail are monstrous. Angelenos suffer terribly in this decrepit, overcrowded jail and some people have died while waiting for their day in court. Close #MCJ now! @keribla @JusticeLANow
