Our mission

Our mission is to improve the lives of impoverished children in our community through philanthropy, dedicated service, and compassionate programs.

Opportunities

Get involved with our children's theatre program - no experience needed!

Nine O’Clock Players (“NOP”) is seeking energetic and open-hearted individuals to join our award-winning theatre company.

NOP is one of the oldest, continuously-performing children’s theatre companies in the United States and is part of Assistance League of Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of impoverished children.

Founded in 1929, NOP brings the magic of live theatre to over 12,000 low-income and special needs children annually with our lively, full-scale musical productions.

Producing these shows takes a village and NOP is currently seeking to expand membership for our 2023-2024 season which includes productions of “Enchanted Sleeping Beauty” and “Snow White”.

We are currently seeking actors, stage crew, spot light operators, costume designers, set painters, light board operators, ushers and anyone who would like to participate backstage or front of the house to join our amazing group. Performances take place during the weekday for school field trips on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30am, and on Sundays at 2pm.

Join us July 29th for complimentary wine-tasting and food pairing, a tour of our Assistance League Theater and learn how you can join Nine O’Clock Players. Should you decide to join NOP, membership dues are $100 annually and fully tax deductible.

All attendees must be 21 years and older to attend this event.

Seeking Volunteers For Foster Children's Resource Center in Northridge!

Qualities we value and are looking for in our Volunteers:

  • Passionate about children and our mission
  • Positive, enthusiastic, “can do” attitude
  • Consistent availability to travel to our center in Northridge (in the future)
  • Flexible to do tasks of all kinds (work with clients, process paperwork, make telephone calls, stock shelves, perform inventory and make shopping lists)
  • Ability to speak Spanish; not mandatory but welcomed as many of the families we serve are Spanish speaking
  • Willingness to complete a background check

Background:
The Foster Children’s Resource Center is an all-volunteer program of Assistance League of Los Angeles that serves local children in the foster care system in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. Each of our clients has an open case with a social worker from the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) who refer them to our program. Clients are able to come to the Center every 6 months as long as their case is open, with the proper referral paperwork from their social workers, to receive beautiful new clothing and supplies, free of charge.

The Center is a small, carefully designed workspace which focuses on the intimate interaction of individual children and their volunteer “personal shopper.” Each of the Center’s volunteers take their clients on a personalized shopping trip, where the client can select, try on and model their clothing items in a warm and caring environment. The Center is designed as a retail store, replete with beautiful displays, mirrors, dressing rooms and accessories to complement the outfits selected by the clients.
