Ways to help

Weekly Events

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 10am we host hands-on service projects at our office on Melrose. On Art Tuesday's, we bring people together to make our popular mosiac suns that we donate to brighten up schools, hospitals, and places all over town. On Thursday mornings we host projects that benefit a different non-profit each week, and range from making soup-in-a-jar for low-income families, to assembling blankets for animal shelters, to putting together hygiene kits for folks experiencing homelessness, and beyond! We also have a similar event called Accessible Wednesdays, where we focus on accessible activities designed for our volunteers with some developmental challenges who want to give back and help others.

Monthly Events

We host a big monthly event as part of our Monthly on Melrose series. Most of these events are held at our offices, and include our MLK Day Clothing Drive & Community Breakfast, Valentine-Making, Bingo-Playing Community Dinner, Vet’s Night & Dinner, Books n’ Brunch, Back to School Drive, Spooky Sunday, Thanksgiving Stuffing event, and of course, our Annual Holiday Party & Singalong. Each event features the opportunity to work on a variety of hands-on service projects while also meeting new people, enjoying a meal together, and having fun! All ages are always welcome, and these events are always free.

How you help Whoever you are, whatever you do, we can use your help. We offer ways for people to help out every week. You see, at Big Sunday, we feel there’s lots of work to be done – but we get so much more accomplished, and have so much more fun, when we do it all together.
About us At Big Sunday, we are based on the idea that the world is not full of "haves-and-have-nots" but as "haves-and-have-mores". We believe that absolutely everyone has some way that they can help somebody else, everyone has some time that they need help - and we all have to look out for one another. We were founded in 1999 as a single day of service. Over the years we have grown to a year-round independent, non-denominational, multicultural nonprofit organization that offers more than 2000 ways each year for people to help somebody else; these projects engage, empower and touch more than 50,000 people of all ages and backgrounds annually. Today, we are a clearinghouse of ways to pitch in, give back, and help out. We have projects for all passions and all talents. (A full list of our wide variety of programs is available on our website.) People participate in Big Sunday events through schools, faith groups, businesses, clubs, teams and as individuals and families. We’ve done projects from Australia to the UK, and in more than 20 different states. We are happy that we often blur the line between helpers and those being helped. Big Sunday has a proud history of being able to attract people of all ages and backgrounds who often don’t participate in helping and/or giving opportunities. These people often discover they’re capable of doing far more than they’d thought, and return to help again and again. We work with hundreds of nonprofits and schools, and constantly steer people to organizations that are appreciative for their help. We have no religious or political agenda, and all of our events are free for all participants. Perhaps best of all, Big Sunday is a large and growing community of people who like to celebrate our difference while finding common ground.
