Ways to help

Weekend Wellness Food Distribution

Weekend Wellness Food Distribution is a drive-through and walk-up meal distribution program hosted on the first Friday of every month. This program provides L.A. Harbor locals free food from Friday evening to Sunday evening since most schools, foodbanks, and pantries are closed on the weekends. Weekend Wellness was created to close that gap, to ensure that all families have enough food to keep them nourished throughout the weekend, and then some. In July of 2020, Mike Lansing, the Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor (BGCLAH) created Weekend Wellness specifically to assist those families already facing economic struggle and poverty, which had then been exacerbated by the Covid-19 health and economic crisis. What started as a grassroots operation serving roughly 250 families at two club sites has now tripled to serve 900 unique families each Friday at multiple dedicated BGCLAH sites. Initially, the program was intended to serve the families of BGCLAH Members, but due to great demand and outcry for food assistance, BGCLAH opened its service to the greater public. Weekend Wellness distributions take place at the Port of Los Angeles BGC (San Pedro), Wilmington BGC (Wilmington), Harbor Hills BGC (Lomita), and the Cheryl Green BGC (Harbor Gateway South).

Art and Music

Share your love of art with kids by supporting our Art Programs. You’ll help to encourage youth to be free in the creative process as well as help to set up and/or clean up our arts room. Our Clubhouses would like to engage Art Room volunteers Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:30pm - 6:30pm. Volunteer needs and hours may slightly vary by location but the overall goal of sharing your love for the Arts will remain the same at each of our sites.

How you help Whether you are a company or an individual wanting to volunteer, you are so important to our mission. All volunteers make a significant impact in the lives of our members.
About us The Los Angeles Harbor Clubs offer programs that address not only member needs, but also their interests. In response to the increasing demand and the needs of the youth we serve, we greatly enhanced our academic, arts and athletics enrichment programming for all members, grades K-12. Today, we are the largest private nonprofit, daily service provider to at-risk youth in the Los Angeles Harbor area, operating programs at our three Clubhouses year-round and providing after-school programming on ten public school campuses.
