Ways to help

Learning Park Volunteer

An incredible time with some truly fantastic children and memories that will last a lifetime! But really, when you join us at the Learning Park, there are many tasks that you could end up doing over the course of the morning. You might be helping a kid connect to their Zoom class one minute, and reading a picture book the next. The students might ask for your help with any of the day-to-day questions that come up during online learning. The group size stays small to keep everyone safe. For this reason, we’re only accepting five volunteers each day.

How you help As they say, it takes a village. We are always looking for volunteers or interns to help us end bullying and intolerance by spreading empathy and kindness.
About us CMH has served the city of Los Angeles for the past twelve years. Our programming has expanded to classrooms in all fifty states and Washington D.C. through the curriculum-based program Empathy Rocks in the U.S.A We have always endeavored to empower at-risk children in the United States by connecting them with empathy and art. This year our organization has opened an Outdoor Learning Park in the housing community of Imperial Courts in Watts, California, a community which experiences disproportionate rates of child poverty. When schools were forced to transition to distance learning, the families of Imperial Courts faced additional challenges presented by lack of internet access and space. With four or five kids attending classes all at once in a small apartment, things get difficult fast. As we evaluated our resources and recognized the needs of the community, the Outdoor Learning Park was built, providing a safe and quiet learning environment. All students have access to iPads with 5G internet, volunteer staff to provide support, and nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack time.
