How you help
The Emerson Avenue Community Garden exists because of the passion, energy, commitment, creativity and perseverance of our wide volunteer base! From diverse community members who show up for our monthly work days, to people who take leadership positions to fulfill ongoing organizational roles, volunteers are our lifeblood.Community gardens are a vital cog in the machinery of healthy, vibrant neighborhoods. They provide a tangible and hopeful sign of renewal, and of the potential of growth given the right mix of intention, energy and nurturing. We hope you will share in the stewardship of the garden.
About us
In 2011, a group of dedicated volunteers took a derelict piece of land in Westchester and began a labor of love that gradually transformed it into a thriving, bountiful green space that brings a special sense of enjoyment to our entire community. Built and maintained 100% by volunteers, the Emerson Avenue Community Garden offers a sustainable, organic green space for growth and enrichment. From toddlers attending StoryTime/Music sessions, to seniors showing up for tours or our Pancake Breakfast, to scout troops using the garden for projects/activities, to families enjoying our movie nights, students at WISH & STEAM who get a chance to get out of the classroom and get their hands in the dirt; to university students helping at the garden for service hours, to the folks who take advantage of the multitude of classes & workshops offered, the garden’s reach is incredibly wide, and deep.
