Ways to help

EmpowHer Girls Academy

Middle school mentors meet with their mentees once a month during the EmpowHer class at the school site. Mentors for this age group are the key to early-age intervention and creating future success. Mentors support their mentees as they work on developing character, confidence, self-esteem, and life skills. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours, once per month.

Although our programs primarily focus on providing girls with successful female mentors and role models, we still welcome the wisdom and expertise of men who care about the future of inner city girls. For those men who would like to help our cause in a practical way, we would be happy to welcome you to apply to become a volunteer or member of our committees.

EmpowHer Leaders Academy

High School mentors meet with their mentees on the 3rd Saturday of each month. These high school students have a leading role in the selection of the monthly themes and corresponding workshops, thereby encouraging them to deeply examine new interests and life goals, refine academic plans, and explore career opportunities. EmpowHer Leaders Academy mentors are therefore highly accomplished professionals from the Los Angeles business, education, technology, arts/cultural, nonprofit and civic sectors. Time Commitment: 2 hours, once per month.

How you help Mentorship is an integral part of our EmpowHer Girls Academy. We have found that the dynamics of the mentor-mentee relationship act as a powerful change agent in our girls’ lives when the right match is made. These positive relationships with mentors result in EmpowHer girls feeling supported and encouraged to set and achieve personal, academic and career goals.
About us We understand that when girls and women are empowered, families and communities are empowered. We partner with middle schools in underserved communities to deliver the EmpowHer Girls Academy Program to 7th and 8th grade girls. We provide support to EmpowHer Girls Academy Program alumnae as they navigate through high school. Professional and business women serve as mentors; they expose EmpowHer girls to careers in a multitude of industries and build positive relationships which result in EmpowHer girls feeling supported and encouraged to set and achieve personal, academic and career goals. EmpowHer works with underprivileged girls and women to create opportunities that can improve their social status and living conditions.
