Opportunities

Food Delivery Driver

Food delivery drivers are needed for the Wednesday food delivery program. Drivers would arrive to our central location at St. Mary’s Church in Koreatown (special parking instructions provided upon confirmation.) The time to pick up food bags for low income senior, disabled or blind residents is 1 pm (special arrangements can be made for slightly earlier or later pickup). Deliveries are made to the following zip codes: 90004, 90005, 90006, 90007, 90008, 90010, 90011, 90016, 90018, 90027, 90041, 90042, 90043, 90044, 90065 and a couple other ones, and a couple that are outside of LA (Burbank, Downey, Bellflower, Compton, Lawndale.) Drivers make 3 to 6 drop offs. It usually takes 2 1/2 or 3 hours. The program is only on Wednesday, and it is every Wednesday (except June 1, August 3, and possibly another date in 2022.) Repeat drivers are encouraged, or if you can do every-other week that’s great too.  Drivers can also volunteer to help pack food (8:30 am to 1 pm). Contact [email protected] if interested.

How you help

Since COVID pandemic began, over 100 volunteer food packers and drivers have dedicated 21,000 hours collecting food and making 12,000 deliveries to households in need. Volunteers have also dedicated 2,000 hours annually helping us distribute food vouchers at participating farmers markets.

About us

HALA offers several direct service programs including Market Match (which provides bonus dollars for low income customers at 25 participating farmers markets); CalFresh Enrollment (enrolling low income persons in CalFresh including SSI recipients, people in re-entry, immigrants, and low income working people); and weekly food delivery to 120 households of blind, disabled or senior residents. HALA educates public officials about powerful anti-hunger legislation in conjunction with other groups statewide through the California Hunger Action Coalition (CHAC).
