Our mission

Food on Foot is a nonprofit dedicated to assisting our unhoused and low-income neighbors in Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, and a fresh start through life-skills training, full-time employment, and permanent housing.

Curriculum Development & Workshop Instruction

Shifts: Sundays from 10:30pm – 12:00pm

Reports To: Director of Programs

Location: 1625 N. Schrader Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028 (In the private parking lot of the Los Angeles LGBT Center)

Position Objective: Working with Food on Foot’s staff, committee members, and other professional volunteers, you will support the jobs and housing department by providing essential resources for individuals and families experiencing homelessness to secure sustainable employment through training, mentorship, and support. Volunteers can utilize their diverse talents by developing impactful curriculum and hosting module-based workshops for our participants so they can gain assets, training, and relevant skills to achieve success in our program.

Position Description: As a contributing member to our curriculum development team and workshop instruction, you will assist with the following:

  • Develop a 90-minute workshop based on relevant and necessary skills and assets to long-term success and instills purpose within the team members
  • Implement the curriculum based on the program demand in a module-based workshop in which you will rotate your skill or asset to teach a minimum of once every quarter, depending on the number of workshops being offered in that round.
  • Tailor the workshops based on measurable success of implementation from each rotation.
  • Give a written (and digital) copy of your curriculum description(s) for inclusion in the organization’s internal resources.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience in a relevant skill or with job training assets. Examples include:
    • Goal setting
    • Employment development – resume building, interview skills, sustainable employment, time management, etc.
    • Housing development & financial literacy– budgeting, basic credit fundamentals, successful housing maintenance, etc.
    • Long-term success skills – building confidence, managing disappointment, etc.
    • Additional coping skills such as art therapy, yoga, stress management, etc.
  • Comfortable with public speaking & confidence in delivery of information
  • Demonstrate social sensitivity when dealing with program participants.

Impact: Volunteers can bring crucial skills to participants who are struggling to find confidence through training and demonstration, thus motivating our unhoused neighbors to progress in building a sustainable plan and get them off the streets.

Distribute food and clothing to 250+ neighbors in need

As a volunteer, you’ll strengthen our community by distributing food, clothing and essential supplies to 250+ unhoused and low-income neighbors every Sunday in Hollywood. You will also meet and hear stories from the participants in our Jobs & Housing program. Graduates from this program earn their way off the streets with full-time jobs, fully-furnished apartments, life-skills training, and the confidence needed to make their accomplishments long-lasting. Graduates from this program earn their way off the streets with a full-time job, a fully-furnished apartment, life-skills training, and the confidence needed to make their accomplishments long lasting.Sunday Meals program:Every Sunday, Food on Foot volunteers distribute food, clothing, and essential supplies to 250+ unhoused and low-income individuals.
