How you help Every Sunday, volunteers like you help distribute food and clothing to the poor and homeless in our Hollywood serving location.
About us In 1996, Food on Foot’s founder, Jay Goldinger, began helping our homeless neighbors by serving chicken dinners out of the trunk of his car right outside the Hollywood Post Office. He soon realized that food wasn’t the solution to homelessness. The underlying factors causing the homeless epidemic are a lack of confidence, resources, and community. In 1999, Jay tackled this issue head-on by creating the Work for Food program, designed to help homeless individuals regain their footing back into society through full-time jobs, housing, life-skills and confidence building. Since then, Food on Foot’s weekly Sunday Meal program and Work for Food program have taken place every single Sunday in the back parking lot of the LGBTCenter in Hollywood, rain or shine.
