Ways to help

Congregation Volunteer

The congregations are where our families eat dinner and spend the nights from 5:15p-6:45a in morning. The congregation gives them free dinner, breakfast, lunch, and family-centered housing seven days a week. Volunteers can help every night of the week in the following areas: pantry needs, dinner preparation, dinner and evening hosts, overnight hosts, and breakfast preparation. Most opportunities are for 2 volunteers.

Day Center Volunteer

Our Day Center is where our families are during the daytime hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., every day of the week, including weekends. Provide hospitality and support to homeless children and their families What does this mean? Baking cookies for the children, tutoring children with homework, playing with the children (working with the children must be with permission from the parents), talking with the guests of our program. Other projects include supervising Day Center policies and procedures; providing resources and referrals to families; administrative tasks such as: typing, filing, answering phones; opening and/or closing the center.

Other Congregation Opportunities

Volunteers plan and organize special activities and events such as arts and crafts projects, videos, game nights, parties and outings for the families. Volunteers bring in a birthday cake if needed or birthday balloons and/or decorations for guests’ birthdays. Some Congregations, during their rotation, have large parish halls that are partitioned into areas for the guests to live. They need help to set up these partitions and take them down at the beginning and end of their rotation. Speaking with congregations/youth groups/etc. about Home Again L.A.

How you help Home Again L.A., since 2010 has assisted over 600 homeless families in securing permanent housing. In 2021, 604 families were provided assistance in securing housing and financial assistance. Home Again L.A. relies heavily on the community to maintain our programs and services available.
About us Since opening our doors in 2010 we have operated a 90-day shelter for homeless families with children. The program works in partnership with local congregations as we focus on temporary shelter, meals, case management and housing. The Rapid Rehousing program helps transition homeless families with children into permanent housing. Families are provided up to 12 months of rental subsidies. Then, our trained Case Managers work alongside families to set benchmarks that focus on stability. As part of our 2020 merger with fellow nonprofit homeless provider, Glendale Communitas Initiative, Home Again L.A. offers community workshops focused on job development, financial planning, and life skills.
