Starting June 1st, we will be making 3,000 meals daily for the Department of Disability & L.A Mayor's Office. Each meal will include a water bottle & small snack/dessert. These meals will be delivered to households across all of Los Angeles daily by Access Transportation to those who are most vulnerable & have some disability where they cannot leave their home or cook meals. This service will be in addition to the once a week drive thru hot meal program Khalsa Care does currently does for their local community along with meals for homeless shelters & other non-profit organizations for their communities' need for hot meals. Over 127,000 meals will be prepared between May 18-July 3rd alone. We are in need of 50 volunteers everyday to prepare 3,000 meals between 8-11:30am Monday-Friday. Would love to welcome anyone who is available to come help as this is a service opportunity for everyone from all walks of life to help out our local community! Hide full description
|About us||Khalsa Care Foundation (KCF) is a Gurdwara and is located in Pacoima, California, which is a historically low-income area. To elaborate more, KCF is very aware of the community that surrounds us and knew that many families were struggling to simultaneously maintain a roof over their head and food on the table. We believe that no one should worry about whether they will be able to feed their children and family. To help combat this issue, KCF Food Pantry was established in October 2013. The pantry is open every Friday from 5:30pm-6:30pm and hands out food bags weekly to any family in need in the San Fernando Valley. These bags contain enough food for the week and include perishable and non-perishable items, such as cans, bread, cereal, pasta, fruits, and vegetables. The list goes on and we pride ourselves in having the resources to be able to continue this important seva. As the need for help increases, we try to work within our community and outreach to be able to match the growing need. With the increase in unemployment and health concerns caused by COVID19, we want to remain an institution that our community (Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike) can rely on. We have continued our work with Food Pantry and are serving more than 450 families with groceries & currently making 60,000 hot meals monthly. This helps those who are low income, elderly, or have underlying health concerns that prevent them from leaving their house.|
