Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC)

Join KYCC to clean up our neighborhood and make it more livable for our community members. We can’t do it alone and need your help!

Every year, KYCC removes thousands of bags of trash from our neighborhood to improve the quality of life for our residents, keeping trash out of our oceans and building a better Los Angeles. At this event, volunteers will work in small teams to beautify a designated part of our community. All tools and supplies are provided.

Event Location:
Each event will meet at a different location. Please check your shift to find the meeting address for the event you have signed up for. As we are constantly scouting locations, some addresses will be updated closer to the date of the shift. All K-town Beautiful events will be held in the Koreatown or Westlake neighborhoods.

Date/Time:
1st and 3rd Saturdays and 2nd Thursdays of every month 11th from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Registration:
ALL volunteers must register in advance, regardless of age. Any volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration of the event.

• Neighborhood beautification builds community pride and ownership and can improve the quality of life of the residents. When a person has a good quality of life, they are happier and relieved of many stressors related to their safety and well-being.
• Neighborhood beautification can help attract new business, providing convenient local shopping and services, jobs to neighborhood residents, and contributing to street life and economic development.
• Overall, community beautification is important because it makes a statement: someone cares about this place.

Please be sure to wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty, close-toed shoes, bring sun protection and a water bottle and be ready to make some change!

There are many ways to get involved through KYCC programs and events. Whether you are a high school student, retired or a business professional, your time and expertise can help strengthen our community. We also have a variety of intergenerational programs and are actively seeking volunteers who are 55+ years of age, but all are welcome!

The Koreatown Youth and Community Center was established in 1975 to support a growing population of at-risk youth in Los Angeles. Today, KYCC is the leading multiservice organization in Koreatown, supporting children and their families in the areas of education, health, housing, and finances. Most of the clients served are first generation immigrants from Asia and Latin America. Committed to serving the diverse population of Koreatown, we offer all programs in Spanish, Korean and English.

With just 30 minutes of your time, you can save a family hundreds of dollars in tax preparation fees and bring them thousands back in tax returns.  KYCC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities and last year our team completed 12,000 tax returns for low-income families with a team of hundreds of people just like you.

KYCC’s youth programs serve 500 children a year, so your time and energy can mean that one more child will have a better chance in life with just a few hours a week. We’ve found that our volunteers get just as much, if not more out of building this relationship with kids who would thrive with just a little more attention.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:

• Volunteer duties are primarily tutoring along with student/classroom supervision, assist classroom instructors with enrichment activities, and provide light administrative assistance (i.e. roster/data management, snack preparation and service) Monday – Friday with a variety of shifts between 8:30 A.M. until 5:30 P.M. Orientation and training is provided.
• Please note, this volunteer opportunity is for adults 18+. If you are a youth, please let us know as we have a different volunteer program for high school students.
• A limited number of internships are also available in this program.

If you’re a current high school student who’s interested in helping younger K-8th grade students in the classroom, develop your leadership skills and give back to the community then the Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC) is looking for you! KYCC’s Bridge program is led by a group of passionate high school student volunteers who tutor and mentor our younger students in our afterschool programs.
