Ways to help |
Office TasksWe occasionally need help in the office with specific projects. Projects vary and include mailings, research, cataloging, data entry, and photo scanning.Walking Tour DocentBecoming a docent requires significant time commitment and training. Training takes place on an as-need basis, and we accept only a few applicants for each class. No prior knowledge is required and there is no cost to participate. Training typically takes place over six Saturdays, and includes both in-class and “on the street” training. Chosen applicants will need to be available for all training classes, and are expected to lead tours on a consistent basis.Last Remaining Seats Planning CommitteeThe Conservancy has an all-volunteer committee devoted to our Last Remaining Seats series of classic films in historic theatres. The LRS Committee is an annual group of volunteers who help Conservancy staff primarily in: Selecting, via a voting process, films appropriate for the series; Creating and implementing the pre/post-film programming, events, and displays./Photography/VideographyWe rely heavily on high-quality photos and videos that convey the beauty and value of historic places. We work with a small roster of professional and amateur photographers who donate their time and use of their images. Specific needs encompass architectural and event photography, as well as video production and editing.AdvocacyThe best way to help with preservation advocacy issues is to join our Action Alert network. You'll receive email appeals for urgent action, typically writing letters of support and/or attending public hearings in support of threatened places. |

About us | The Los Angeles Conservancy works every day – as we have since 1978 – to make sure historic places survive and thrive for future generations. We work through education and advocacy to raise awareness of historic places, prevent their needless demolition, empower people to save the places they love, and foster strong preservation laws and incentives. The L.A. Conservancy has a vision of Los Angeles as a place that values our past and considers it an essential part of our present and future. |
