Opportunities

M. Sue Frazier Summer Camp Volunteer

Each year, Jenesse Center organizes a summer camp program for the children of our clients living in our residential housing shelters for children ages 5-12. This program provides parents much needed support over the summer while also exposing the kids to educational and experiential activities they may not have previously experienced. This year we will also be expanding the camp to include youth who are accessing services through our community Family Source Center, which provides free tutoring, college process support, legal clinics, a food pantry and more.
Camp consists of six weeks, each with a specific theme, and a mix of on-site and field trip programs and experiences. Volunteers will play a key role in facilitating group activities and games, supporting outside facilitators when needed, supervising field trips, connecting with the youth and ensuring that programming goes smoothly. Group field trips include visits to an organic farm, a Dodger’s game, Universal Studios and more.

The camp runs June 17th through July 26th, Monday through Friday from 9am-3pm. Volunteers do not have to be available for the entire time but must attend full days when available. Experience with children preferred but not required.

Please contact Youth Program Advocate, Natalia Chavez ([email protected]) with any questions, to express interest or for more information.

How you help

Our volunteers have been a large part of our success. We are so excited that you want to join us in this amazing work — either by participating in one of our Days of Service or possibly working directly with clients, for example as an Education and Program Facilitator. We are looking for compassionate and hardworking people who want to make a positive change in the lives of our families anyway they can.

About us

Offering 40 years of life-saving services, Jenesse Center Inc. is a nationally recognized non-profit domestic violence prevention and intervention organization. Jenesse works locally, nationally, and globally to shine a light on violence against women, girls, men, and boys and advocates the basic human right for all people to have peace in their homes and relationships. Jenesse’s culturally sensitive programs and services not only transition families from crisis to self-sufficiency but transforms the lives of its clients and the community at large by offering education, referrals, and resources that go beyond shelter. Housing women and children from 30 days up to two years through our emergency and transitional shelters, Jenesse also provides a variety of support services, including mental health counseling, independent life skills classes, computer training, job referrals, after school programs for children, field trips, tutoring, and comprehensive, direct legal services. Jenesse takes a proactive stance in educating young people to learn what healthy relationships look like and works to break the generational cycle of violence.
