Our mission | OJS's mission is to help under-resourced, first-generation students get in, stay in, and graduate from a four-year college. We do this by providing academic support, mentoring, and exposure to a broader world. |

Ways to help |
Become a MentorWe currently have the largest need for community members to become volunteer mentors! The mentor serves as a role model and friend to support students in reaching their full potential. This includes one-on-one time getting to know and building trust with your mentee; planning and attending enriching outings to enjoy together; and offering support as the student navigates their college planning. Many of our mentor/mentees forge truly meaningful bonds, maintaining their relationship long after the formal mentorship program ends! We even have multiple repeat mentors who have stayed with us for 5-10+ years because the program is so touching and life-changing. Please fill out the volunteer application linked here to express your interest and learn more! |

About us | Since 1994, OJS has provided the comprehensive resources and mentoring needed to enable youth in underserved communities to reach their full potential through a college education. Our organization has an established and successful track record of success in providing access to higher education for low-income students – a demographic group significantly underrepresented on four-year college campuses locally, throughout California, and across our nation. OJS serves between 250-350 youth annually – all Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) students, ranging from 13 to 23 years old. |
