STOKED
Ways to help |
Skate MentorReady to teach flip tricks and how to grind? STOKED Skate Mentors provide skate instruction for 2-4 hours every Saturday in Spring and Fall. Mentors should be experienced skaters.Snow MentorDuring the winter months, STOKED Snow Mentors are our primary snowboarding instructors. Mentors teach 3-4 students in small groups during a snow day. Snow trips are usually 10-12 hour days on weekends. Snow Mentors should be comfortable on blue runs and should be able to link turns.STOKED to Serve MentorsNo action sports experience required. Our STOKED to Serve mentors work throughout the year with students on community impact projects to improve and beautify our neighborhoods. Service projects in the past have included mural painting, skate ramp building, community garden planting, park clean-ups, and homeless shelter service.Professional/Career MentorsThe STOKED Professional/Career Mentors share their work experience with students. Mentors are assigned a school group and visit once per month during the academic year (September through May) to help monitor a year-long leadership development program. The commitment is 2 hours each month on a weekday during the afterschool hours of 3-6pm.Surf MentorOn Saturdays in July and August, STOKED Surf Mentors provide 1-on-1 surf instruction for our students for 4 hours. Surf Mentors are in the water with students helping to push them into waves.Coffee Sessions VolunteerCoffee Sessions are the perfect options for adults who want to work with students, but have little time. Coffee Sessions are one-time, 1-on-1 informational interviews between Mentors and students. Sessions last for approximately 60 minutes, supervised by STOKED staff, and take place at a local coffee shop. |

How you help | Mentors are essential to our programs, instilling confidence and values and challenging all STOKED youth to become fearless leaders. Our mentors provide guidance, support, and constant encouragement in a variety of ways, through sports as well as other activities. |

About us | Founder Steve Larosiliere, along with Co-founder, Sal Masekela believed that the courage and perseverance needed to learn action sports would be an ideal way to teach those life skills to at–risk and disadvantaged youth. Combining life lessons with the power of mentoring and a supportive community, Stoked Mentoring was born. Through Stoked, teens gain a supportive, an encouraging mentor along with a team of people determined to see them succeed. |
