Our mission

The Book Truck increases literacy skills among foster care, homeless, and low-income teens in order to create a pathway out of poverty.
Opportunities

Teen Literacy Events

Get trained as one of our official book experts and help ensure that every teen who talks to us takes home the perfect books at one of our literacy events. Once you are trained as a book expert, you can sign up to come to ANY of our literacy events to volunteer!! This is a great experience for small groups of teens like academic enrichment programs, book clubs, and honor societies!

Host a Book Drive

Hold a book drive at your school, your church, or even your birthday party. Your support and involvement helps us improve the lives of teens with low literacy. We’ll help you plan the details and arrange a time to pick up the books after your event.

About us

The Book Truck holds Literacy Events throughout Los Angeles and every year, we give thousands of books to teens in underserved communities. We bring our truck to events at high schools and teen service organizations all over the city. The Book Truck also plans special visits to larger youth resource fairs such as United Friends of the Children’s College Within Reach and Foster Care Counts’ Foster Mother’s Day Celebration. Our Literacy Events are staffed by trained teen volunteers who come from all across LA, including from the communities we serve.
