Ways to help

Mentor

It’s easy to make a big difference in a child’s life. You spend about two hours a week being friends with a child who is growing up in a low income family and needs someone to be a role model. Our students need someone like you to believe in their potential. Mentors must live or work in Pomona Valley, be 18 years or age or older, available weekly for a year, and be a college student or graduate.

Tutor

To be a Tutor you just have to spend about 1 ½ – 2 hours a week helping your student with their homework and academic skills. You’ll most likely meet at school or a library, at a time that is convenient for both of you. Whether you’re a high school student, college student, working adult, or senior, being a tutor is an ideal way to help a child achieve their dreams. Tutors must live or work in Pomona Valley, be 16 years of age or older, and available weekly for a semester.

How you help Volunteers support our education, medical, and urban farming programs that serve close to 1,000 low-income students and families each year.
About us Uncommon Good was founded in 2000 by Executive Director Nancy Mintie. Previously, Mintie founded and directed a legal and social services center for the homeless and for poor families living in slum housing in Los Angeles. Uncommon good works to help underprivileged children succeed in school and go to college, by supporting young doctors who are bringing health and wellness into underserved communities, and through a variety of environmental initiatives.
