Our mission Founded in 1999, The Giving Spirit’s mission is twofold. First, to provide immediate, tangible aid to homeless lives in Greater Los Angeles by procuring for, assembling together, and directly serving our poor with “survival kits” containing essential items for living, including food, hydration, toiletries, hygiene, PPE, clothing, weather protection and much more. The second half of our mission is to inform, engage and educate individuals, businesses and communities through various platforms about the human face of homelessness, the myths and realities surrounding the unhoused, and how workable solutions to alleviate and ultimately end homelessness arise from direct community engagement, awareness, powerful data, and our common humanity.

How you help Our volunteers return from this experience with a very clear understanding of what 'homeless on the streets of Southern California' really means, and many of them feel it has made them a more compassionate person. Over 22,000 volunteers have helped 88,000 homeless individuals.
About us The Giving Spirit provides aid to these vulnerable and fragile lives by assembling and personally distributing survival kits to the children, women and families living on the streets of Los Angeles. These kits contain over 70 individual items providing sustenance to the homeless in their time of need. Along with this gift the volunteers will deliver a fleeting moment of compassion and non-judgmental conversation, a time, perhaps brief, of mutual human understanding. Our efforts have personally and positively impacted the lives of our volunteers and our homeless friends from Skid Row to Santa Monica.
