While volunteering during our Breakfast Program, volunteers gain firsthand experience of what our unhoused community members face every day - hunger and other sensitive issues. Becoming a SFC volunteer can also mean a chance to build relationships with our unhoused guests, staff, and fellow volunteers. It’s an opportunity to take a moment to reflect on current community issues and a chance to help SFC in our mission to serve hope. During the pandemic, we modified our programs in a to-go distribution format. As of June 7 we plan to resume our indoor dining service but still offer the to-go breakfast option. Our Breakfast Program schedule is as follows: Monday: 7:00 am to 8:30 am On Mondays, our Breakfast Program will remain a to-go distribution format. During these days, volunteers can expect to help prepare hot coffee and the to-go breakfast plates. Volunteers, who feel comfortable to do so, can also help distribute the prepared foods at our front door along with one of our staff members. Volunteers can expect a smaller group of fellow volunteers on these days. More details about the experience will be shared with you via a welcoming email. Tuesday-Friday: 7:00 am to 9:00 am During Tuesday to Friday, we host our indoor dining service. The dining service will take place indoors - inside the center. Volunteers can expect a larger group of fellow volunteers on these days and a chance to fill any one of the roles below: Hosts – With the help of a staff member, volunteers will help control the flow of our unhoused guests during dining service. They help with sitting guests who wish to dine in with us or provide to-go breakfast plates. However, their main priority will be to hand off our to-go breakfast plates. Table Captains – One volunteer is stationed at one or two tables. The volunteer in this role will help keep the table organized during our dining service. This role is the most sought out by all volunteers as it provides a good opportunity for conversation with our guests. Coffee attendants – Volunteers help prepare cups of coffee and provide refills when needed. Kitchen Helpers – These volunteers will help in the kitchen by prepping the breakfast plates for both the indoor dining guests and for our to-go guests. Brief job descriptions are provided here. Then, usually starting at 10:30, some volunteers can help hand out boxes to our families with the assistance of staff. Senior Friday: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm Fridays are our Senior Day! As part of the Pantry Program, we have our volunteers sort through donated food products and make to-go pantry boxes to be distributed to seniors in our community. Then, with the help of our volunteers, we host a community-building event from 11:00a-12:00pm which could include Bingo, Lotaria, or Movie Day. If interested, please sign up to volunteer! We are no longer accepting applications for court-referred volunteers except through this program. Please contact them should you like to be scheduled at St. Francis. Cancellation Policy Our volunteers are very important to us, and we depend upon your generosity and support to serve our community. To ensure that our programs run smoothly, individual volunteers must notify Juniper at [email protected] or [email protected], of cancellations via email or phone at least 24 hours in advance of their reservation. Groups must confirm attendance by the Saturday before and any canceations must be made by this time. No shows and noncomplainces with this policy may result in reistrictions to future volunteering. How you help	Volunteers play a vital role in supporting every aspect of SFC’s daily operations, from working directly with homeless and extremely low-income program guests, to helping organize donations of food and clothing, and even providing administrative assistance.
