About this event
Conscious Volunteerism Brings Food Justice with Hollywood Food Coalition
Sociable by Nature: How Sharing A Daily Meal Helps Build a More Just World with Hollywood Food Coalition. This workshop will be co hosted by John Billingsley, President of the Board of Directors of Hollywood Food Coalition. A brief portion of the workshop will be devoted to a discussion of how we do what we do, but the bulk of the workshop, inclusive of the ‘service project’ portion of the event, will be devoted to exploring, collectively, ways to either better identify your own ‘volunteer bliss’ (so as to get more involved in your community) or – if you are already a contributing member of a nonprofit – expand your organization’s fundraising and friend-raising capacities. During the virtual service portion, registrants will be asked to research into specific volunteer opportunities that exist in their communities, as well as their own ideas and notions for how to get more involved in different kinds of nonprofit organizations. The goal of the service project is to serve the participants themselves by expanding their sense of how they can do more in their communities, no matter how active they already are. People will be encouraged to share their thoughts, and a specific ‘worksheet’ will be provided to all registrants by Mr. Billingsley, approximately one week before the event, to help shape and organize the hour-long discussion and individual thoughts.
This workshop is being held at 5pm est/2pm pst
The presentation portion of this event will be recorded.
HFA’s 20th Annual MLK Serve-A-Thon:
On Monday and Tuesday, January 18th and 19th, 2021, Hunger Free America is holding our 20th Annual MLK Serve-A-Thon. We encourage volunteers to register for any of our events, including a kick off rally to raise hunger awareness and national phone bank on January 18th, a panel on “How to Best Advance Dr. King’s Food Justice Vision” on January 19th, or one of 24 virtual service-learning workshops, co-hosted in partnership with 20 different non-profits from across the country. During these workshops, volunteers will first participate in a learning dialogue addressing the connection between food insecurity and other social justice issues and then support a virtual volunteer activity.
