Volunteers provide homework assistance to students ages 6 to 12. Students will also work on creative writing assignments developed by 826LA, which will then be published in books at the end of each semester. Gardening Volunteers assist with pruning, weeding, composting, general grooming, and small garden-related construction projects. Volunteers also help plant bulbs, annual color, small perennials, and shrubs.

Teen Volunteers help out with family programs like Creation Station, summer camps, and Mud Mania.

Garden Crafts Volunteers produce garden-themed items for the Museum Shop and also help with holiday decorating.

House docents guide visitors through the adobe house, share stories about the people who lived there, and explain the historic objects they used in their day-to-day lives. Docent training covers California and Rancho history through the 1940s as well as adobe architecture, decorative arts, textiles, and interpretation techniques.

Visitor Center Volunteers welcome visitors, provide an orientation to the site, answer phones, and assist with Museum Shop sales.

Assist during our sails as a deckhand or crew member. You can also assist with dockside support. There is constant demand in the following areas: general boat maintenance – sanding, oiling, painting, cleaning the vessels; repair and upgrades – canvas/sails, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical projects.

Help with educational programs, fundraising, office projects, IT, food preparation, merchandise.

Help monitor the charismatic cactus wrens in our preserves. This will be an annual program to track the birds, their nests, and their success in rearing babies. Training typically takes place in February, with monitoring beginning in March and lasting through August. (minimum 4 hrs/month)

Help restore vital habitats by planting natives and removing invasive species in various preserves around the peninsula. Training, tools, camaraderie and beautiful scenery are provided, but bring close-toed shoes, water, and sun protection.
